The name of this bush - 'creosote bush' - comes from that pungent smell given off by its resinous leaves, especially after rain. The Mexicans call it 'the little stinker'.
During drought periods, the creosote bush actually sheds its mature leaves. But its young leaves soldier on making sugars even when its internal water supplies are down to 25% of what they should be!
